Biography|Werner Baumann — The Chair He Took Here on 1 May

On 24 February 2016 the Supervisory Board of Bayer AG, meeting in Leverkusen, named Werner Baumann the next Chairman of the Board of Management.

The company's statement that day, dated Leverkusen, said he would succeed Marijn Dekkers effective 1 May 2016.

Dekkers had asked that his contract end on 30 April, after the Annual Stockholders' Meeting, seven months earlier than planned.

Baumann was already the Board member for Strategy and Portfolio Management.

He kept those duties.

He had been chief financial officer from 1 January 2010 and strategy chief from 1 October 2014.

On 1 May he took the chair of a life-sciences group that Dekkers had already steered away from bulk chemicals.

Four weeks later he would put Monsanto on the table.

The pin is the public campus at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Allee 1, where the succession was decided and where it took effect.
