Concert History | Camp Randall Stadium — A Nine-Story Touring Stage Reconfigured the Bowl

On August 26, 1994, the Rolling Stones brought the Voodoo Lounge Tour to Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. A contemporaneous [Los Angeles Times tour schedule](https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1994-07-31-ca-21842-story.html) lists an August 26 University of Wisconsin date in Madison; [UW–Madison’s venue history](https://news.wisc.edu/camp-randalls-unforgettable-concerts/) independently identifies the exact date, tour and stadium.
Before the tour opened, producer Joseph Rascoff described its stadium stage to the Los Angeles Times as nine stories high, 100 feet deep and as much as 300 feet wide. UW–Madison’s account adds that the Camp Randall production installed giant inflatable figures. Together, those details show how the session worked as temporary architecture: the touring structure occupied part of a fixed football bowl, imposed its own visual scale and reorganized the field around a stage built to move from stadium to stadium.
The stadium’s permanent seating did not equal the concert’s usable room. Camp Randall’s fixed stands, field and sightlines had to be remapped around the traveling stage. This account therefore makes no attendance claim; the accessible institutional retrospective gives a crowd estimate, not a named gate count or audited box-office total. As of September 2026, the [University of Wisconsin Athletics venue page](https://uwbadgers.com/sports/2015/8/21/GEN_2014010132) still identifies Camp Randall as Wisconsin football’s home and notes later renovations, so the present bowl should not be mistaken for its 1994 configuration.
**Coordinate method:** The pin at **43.070000, -89.412778** is the stadium-footprint coordinate recorded by [Wikidata](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1029941). Independently, the [U.S. Census TIGER geocoder](https://geocoding.geo.census.gov/geocoder/locations/onelineaddress?address=1440%20Monroe%20Street%2C%20Madison%2C%20WI%2053711&benchmark=Public_AR_Current&format=json) places the university’s official 1440 Monroe Street address at **43.068073, -89.412490**, on the south edge of the complex; an [official UW map](https://commencement.wisc.edu/commencement-day/parking-and-transportation/camp-randall-stadium-map/) confirms the bowl between Regent Street, Engineering Drive, Breese Terrace and North Randall Avenue. The approximately 215-meter separation is consistent with an entrance/address point versus the bowl center. Use a **250-meter precision radius**. The pin represents the stadium footprint, not a documented stage position.

It shows the modern stadium and surrounding Madison neighborhood after later changes; it does **not** depict the Rolling Stones or the 1994 concert.
