On 5 July 2005, U2 played Stadion Śląski in Chorzów, with The Killers and The Magic Numbers supporting. U2's own archive markets the stop under nearby Katowice, but the stadium itself is in Chorzów. The exact date, venue label and bill are preserved in the [official tour record](https://www.u2.com/tour/date/4386); an independent [Onet retrospective](https://kultura.onet.pl/muzyka/wiadomosci/zywa-flaga-na-koncercie-u2-w-chorzowie-niezapomniany-koncert-w-polsce/q6vrnpp) places the concert at Stadion Śląski in Chorzów.
The memorable production element came from the audience, not the touring crew. Local fans circulated instructions online and through local media: people holding pitch tickets were asked to bring red fabric, while spectators in the stands brought white sheets or scarves. During "New Year's Day," those two location groups raised the material together. The field and grandstands became the two horizontal bands of Poland's flag.
That division matters because it shows how a stadium's ticket geography could become a display system. The plan did not require a centralized scenic build or a synchronized video screen. It distributed one simple instruction according to where each ticket placed its holder, then used the bowl's vertical separation to make the image legible from the stage. The official U2 account confirms both the online/media coordination and the red-floor, white-stands arrangement; Onet independently describes the ticket-zone instructions.
**Coordinate method.** The pin at **50.288333, 18.973056** marks the center of the stadium footprint in [Wikidata](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q599592). [GeoNames feature 6285741](https://www.geonames.org/6285741/stadion-slaski.html) independently places Stadion Śląski at 50.28806, 18.97252, about 50 metres away. A **220 m precision radius** covers the historical bowl and allows for its major 2009–2017 reconstruction; the pin does not claim the temporary 2005 stage position.
**Status note (checked 9 September 2026).** U2's official site remains current, and Stadion Śląski is extant on the same site after reconstruction. This account makes no private, medical or crowd-safety claims.
