Filming role: the Nationwide Filming Location Guide identifies 中山の棚田 (Nakayama terraced rice fields) on Shodoshima as the terraced slope beside the home where 杉下希美 / Nozomi Sugishita and her family move after being driven from their former house. The location is listed among the drama’s principal Setouchi locations rather than as a single isolated insert, so this memory uses the 2014-10-17 premiere as a series/first-arc anchor and does not claim an exact camera position or a particular rice plot.

Why it matters: the steep agricultural landscape reinforces the physical and social upheaval of Nozomi’s island adolescence. TBS’s own Setouchi location diary explains that fictional 青景島 was not one literal island: production combined locations across Shikoku and five Seto Inland Sea islands. That distinction is important here—Nakayama is one real component of the composite fictional island, not “Aokage Island” itself.

Today: Shodoshima Town describes 中山千枚田 as roughly 12 hectares of about 800 terraced fields at 150–250 metres elevation, designated one of Japan’s 100 selected terraced-rice-field landscapes. It remains a living agricultural landscape, not a preserved television set. Stay on public roads/paths, do not enter cultivated paddies, and give farming activity priority.
