Signal | Nowon Police Station — The Building They Called Jinyang
kevin
The sign on Nowon-ro 283 says Seoul Nowon Police Station. In Signal it answered to another name.
Jinyang Police Station does not exist. The production borrowed this northern Seoul headquarters for the fictional house where Park Hae-young finds the walkie-talkie in storage and where Cha Soo-hyun keeps a cold-case team alive against the grain of the building. Detectives come and go under a real Korean National Police facade. The cases they reopen are composites of crimes the country already knew.
Hagye-dong is apartment blocks, a community center, and a wide municipal road. It is not picturesque. That is why it works. Signal needed a station that looked like work, not a set. The glass and stone still do that job. You can stand across Nowon-ro and read the public entrance without crossing a barrier.
The walkie-talkie is the fantasy. The station is the argument. Cold cases live in filing rooms and in officers who refuse to let a file die because the statute or the politics say it should. Hae-young starts here as a profiler who does not trust the room. Soo-hyun holds the room anyway.
Leave by Line 7 at Hagye. The building will still be doing its weekday job when you look back. That is the pilgrimage: a working police station that once played a city that never was.
Location: 283 Nowon-ro, Hagye-dong, Nowon-gu. Confirmed in Korean production notes as the exterior for fictional Jinyang Police Station. Nearby Hagye 1-dong civic building photograph via Wikimedia Commons (Ahn Woo-seok, CC BY-SA 3.0).
