The Shinjuku entertainment district marker gives the early pilgrimage route its urban density. Hikaru no Go often places intense private obsession inside ordinary public noise. Somewhere above or beyond the signs, a Go room may be waiting; on the street, the city has no idea that Hikaru's life is being pulled open by Sai. This contrast is part of the series' charm. The divine move may sound mystical, but the path toward it runs through very real neighborhoods.
