Biography | Dara Khosrowshahi — The Hope Street Labs Where the Engineer Finished Brown

A future ride-hail chief is easy to file as someone who never sat an engineering exam.

The named degree is on this College Hill block.

Khosrowshahi finished a Bachelor of Science in electrical and electronics engineering at Brown University in 1991.

Wikipedia, Bloomberg's 2017 career sketch, Intel-era and Nokia-era company biographies, and Brown-adjacent profiles all give that year and that field.

Some later write-ups say bioelectrical engineering. The university's own electrical-engineering concentration sits inside the School of Engineering and has long included a bioelectrical track. The safer public label is the one the company biographies repeat: electrical engineering.

Barus and Holley, at 184 Hope Street, opened in the mid-1960s as the home of physics and engineering.

It was the working lab-and-office block for that school when he was on campus. The newer Engineering Research Center on Brook Street opened in 2017, a quarter-century after the diploma, and is the wrong pin for 1991.

OpenStreetMap and the university list put the building on Hope Street at about 41.8266 north, 71.3979 west.

From here he went to New York as an analyst at Allen and Company, not into a lab bench career.
