Biography | David Joyner — The Council Seat He Took at the College That Now Carries the Rawls Name

The Rawls College of Business sits at 703 Flint Avenue, on the northwest gateway of the Texas Tech campus, across from the health-sciences side of the street.

The hall that stands here opened for classes in the spring of 2012. It is not the building Joyner sat in as an undergraduate.

Jerry S. Rawls's $25 million gift in December 2000 renamed the college; the new building followed a decade later on the demolished Thompson and Gaston Halls site and earned LEED Gold.

In July 2020 Joyner joined the college's advisory council.

The date is in CVS Health's 18 October 2024 Form 8-K, which lists the council seat among his outside roles at the moment the board named him chief executive.

July 2020 was not a victory lap inside the company. He had just left CVS Health after serving as executive vice president for sales and marketing.

The 8-K and the 2025 proxy put the earlier Caremark sales-and-account-services stretch from March 2011 through December 2019, and the departure from the combined company around 2020.

The council seat is the public Texas tie he kept while he advised other health companies, including Podimetrics from September 2020 and gWell from July 2021.

A visitor to 703 Flint Avenue is standing at the college as it exists after the gift and the move, not at the 1986 classrooms.

Those remain a few blocks south, in the Media and Communication complex that inherited the old business building.

The advisory-council appointment is the moment the alumnus walked back into the school under its new name and its new roof.
