Biography | Enrique Lores — The Sant Cugat Campus That Kept the Intern

People treat Lores as a Palo Alto chief who happened to be Spanish.

The job that stuck was in Catalonia.

In 1989 Hewlett-Packard ran a program that brought European engineering students to the United States.

When the summer ended, the company told him it was opening more work in Spain and offered him a full-time post because he was from the country.

HP's first Catalan plant had opened in Terrassa in 1985 with a few dozen people making graphics plotters.

By 1990 the work had moved to a new campus at what is now Avinguda Graells and Avinguda de la Generalitat in Sant Cugat del Vallès, 08174.

OpenStreetMap still maps the office blocks as Complex Hewlett Packard.

Spanish reporting on the campus's fortieth year in 2025 names Lores as the intern who began there and later ran the whole company.

He later took an MBA at ESADE in Barcelona while staying inside HP.

The campus is not a public museum.

It is a working research site, the company's largest research hub outside the United States, with more than 2,600 people on the books in the mid-2020s.

A visitor can stand at the public edge of Avinguda Graells and see the office blocks.
