Biography|Melker Schörling — The Civilekonom Degree on Vasagatan

The line on every later CV is short: civilekonom, Handelshögskolan i Göteborg, 1970.

The building that now carries that faculty sits at Vasagatan 1, where Vasagatan meets Sprängkullsgatan in Haga.

Schörling arrived from a technical gymnasium in Örebro, having already decided the Götlunda farm would not be his life.

The School of Business, Economics and Law is a faculty of the University of Gothenburg.

The family's own site and the Swedish biographical notices both date the exam to 1970.

Forbes later called the credential an MBA from Gothenburg University; the Swedish degree name is civilekonom.

The present block is not the lecture hall he sat in.

Peter Erséus's prize-winning reconstruction of 1995 closed the block and won the Kasper Salin Prize.

What stands here now is the successor campus on the same street, still the public door of the faculty that stamped the degree.

From here the path was ordinary corporate Sweden, not a startup garage.

He worked at Atlas Copco and at Ericsson, including a posting in Mexico, then took a first managing-director job at the end of the 1970s inside Fläkt, a Wallenberg-sphere company.

Crawford Door followed in 1984–1987.

None of those stops is as cleanly pinned as this one.

Vasagatan is where the farm boy collected the credential Swedish industry then required of anyone who wanted to run someone else's company.

Twelve years later Gustaf Douglas would hand him Securitas.

The degree did not make the fortune.

It got him into the rooms where the fortune became possible.
