Biography|Melker Schörling — The Controlling Stake That Remade Hexagon

Hexagon AB's registered street address is Lilla Bantorget 15, a short block behind Stockholm Central Station.

This is the holding company's public door, not a factory floor.

Melker Schörling took the controlling stake in Hexagon in 1998 and became chairman in 1999.

The dates come from Hexagon's own death notice of 11 December 2023, signed in the names of chairman Ola Rollén and president Paolo Guglielmini.

He had just left the Skanska chief-executive chair after 1993–1997.

The next move was ownership, not another payroll job.

Hexagon was then a diversified Swedish engineering name.

Under his chairmanship, and later under Rollén as chief executive, it concentrated on measurement technology and grew by acquisition — Leica Geosystems among the largest.

Schörling was not Douglas's partner in this one.

Memorial essays are careful on that point: Hexagon was his own industrial bet.

He left every board in 2017, citing health, and his daughters Sofia and Märta took the owner's seat.

The company statement after his death treated the 1998 purchase as the start of the present firm.

Lilla Bantorget is a working office address.

It is also the place where a farm-parish economist parked the investment that outlived him.

Do not confuse the door with a museum.
