People treat Stan Kroenke as a collector of teams.
The building that put the Rams back in Los Angeles is a piece of land he assembled himself.
In January 2014 his holding company Pincay Re LLC took title to about sixty acres Walmart had failed to turn into a superstore, a parking lot between the Forum and the closed Hollywood Park racetrack.
He already held 30 percent of the Rams from the 1995 move to St. Louis.
He became sole owner in August 2010.
On 12 January 2016, meeting at the Westin Houston Memorial City, NFL owners voted 30-2 to let the club leave St. Louis for this site.
The Chargers received a one-year option to share the building.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on 17 November 2016 on the former racetrack.
The bowl sits roughly a hundred feet below street level under a translucent ETFE canopy.
Listed capacity is 70,240 seats, expandable past 100,000 for a Super Bowl or an Olympic ceremony.
The first NFL game here was 13 September 2020, the Rams against Dallas, in an empty house because of the pandemic.
A ribbon-cutting had been held five days earlier.
Later reporting put the privately financed Hollywood Park stadium project near five billion dollars, well above the figures circulated when the owners voted.
On 13 February 2022 the Rams won Super Bowl LVI in the building they now called home.
The move left St. Louis without an NFL franchise.
In November 2021 the league and the Rams settled with St. Louis city and county interests for $790 million over the departure.
Kroenke was born Enos Stanley Kroenke on 29 July 1947 in Columbia, Missouri, and grew up in Mora, where his father ran a lumber yard.
The Inglewood stadium is the public face of a career that began with shopping centers near Walmart stores and with THF Realty, the suburban development firm he founded in St. Louis in 1991.
A visitor on Stadium Drive is looking at a racetrack that no longer exists, and at the largest public bet a Missouri real-estate man ever placed on a football team.
