Biography | Tim Cook — The First Special Event Under the Glass Cylinder Named for Jobs

On 12 September 2017 Apple held its first special event at the Steve Jobs Theater.

Tim Cook opened the morning in a 1,000-seat auditorium that sits under a hill on the south side of Apple Park.

The visible piece from the grounds is a glass cylinder 41 metres across, with a carbon-fiber roof and no interior columns.

Apple's own event page called it the first-ever event at the theater.

The company had named the hall on 22 February 2017.

Cook introduced iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, then, as a separate act, iPhone X.

The X dropped the Home button, used an OLED face, and unlocked with Face ID.

Apple Watch Series 3 and Apple TV 4K went out the same morning.

The theater is not a public venue with a box office.

It has no posted season.

Shareholders' meetings and later developer sessions have used it, but a visitor cannot book a seat.

The place a stranger can actually enter is the Apple Park Visitor Center, a few hundred metres away at 10600 North Tantau Avenue, which looks at the ring rather than into this cylinder.

The pin is the theater, because that is where Cook stood.
