[RFE/RL’s contemporary report](https://www.rferl.org/a/1081494.html) identified Michael Jackson’s September 7, 1996 concert on Prague’s Letná Plain as the opening session of the HIStory World Tour. The venue was normally a public park. For the show it became a ticketed enclosure: the road beside it, surface transit and a tunnel into the area were scheduled to close, while special trains and buses were due to arrive from across the Czech Republic and neighboring Germany.
The next day, [El País](https://elpais.com/diario/1996/09/09/cultura/842220011_850215.html) reported that police estimated about 120,000 spectators and that cars and buses arriving from neighboring countries had made the surrounding streets impassable. [Radio Prague International](https://english.radio.cz/25-years-michael-jackson-enchanted-prague-8727540) independently confirms the date and plain and reports that Jackson’s team brought 1,200 tons of sound equipment from Los Angeles.
Letná therefore worked less like a permanent stadium than a temporary concert district. Fencing and closures converted civic open ground into a controlled venue; the regional transport plan extended its intended catchment far beyond Prague. The same operation that restricted ordinary movement around the plain created new routes toward it for one night.
**Coordinate method.** The pin at 50.098156, 14.417412 marks the centre of Letná Plain, not an undocumented stage, gate or fence line. [Wikidata](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q121080487) places the plain there; [Prague City Tourism’s official Letná Plain page](https://prague.eu/en/objevujte/letenska-plan/) maps it about 25 metres away and describes the open area as a site for events requiring substantial space. Because the 1996 concert footprint is not documented precisely, the honest precision radius is ±300 metres.
