On 29 October 2022, Spain’s TaToH and Austria’s Liereyy sat down inside Heidelberg Castle for the Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition Grand Final of Red Bull Wololo: Legacy, a best-of-seven series whose winner would leave the historic venue as champion of the event’s 16-player Age of Empires II field.
Red Bull organized the competition with support from Microsoft, and the official Age of Empires site promoted Castle Heidelberg as the main-event venue rather than merely an advertised host city, making this an offline, publisher-supported tournament moment rather than online play assigned a convenient pin.
The match used the Wololo series’ Empire Wars format, a one-versus-one mode that skips the slow Dark Age opening and begins with a working Feudal Age economy, so decisions about military production, map control, and civilization strengths matter almost immediately.
TaToH had already defeated Liereyy 2-0 during the group stage, and Red Bull’s official recap identifies him as the only player to beat Liereyy during the tournament, which turned the final into a rematch rather than a first encounter between the pair.
In the Grand Final, TaToH won four games to Liereyy’s two, closing the best-of-seven series 4-2 and earning the $60,000 first prize, while Liereyy finished second with $30,000.
The result made TaToH the Age of Empires II champion of Red Bull Wololo: Legacy, alongside separate winners for the event’s Age of Empires I and Age of Empires IV competitions, and it later secured his direct invitation to the next Red Bull Wololo castle event as the defending Legacy champion.
