Esports | Pokémon UNITE | Luminosity — The 3-0 World Final at PACIFICO Yokohama

On August 12, 2023, Luminosity Gaming and OMO Abyssinian met in the Pokémon UNITE World Championship Grand Final inside Exhibition Halls A–D at PACIFICO Yokohama. The publisher-sanctioned competition concluded the 2023 UNITE Championship Series and placed a North American roster opposite a team representing Asia-Pacific East.

This was the global Pokémon UNITE client in the Version 1.11.1.4 release window: the official player instructions required the latest game update, and the next public version arrived after Worlds on August 15. Competitors could use either Nintendo Switch or a tournament-approved mobile device, so no specific handset or control method is assigned to any player here.

Pokémon UNITE matches put two five-player teams on Theia Sky Ruins for ten minutes. Players defeat wild and opposing Pokémon to collect Aeos energy, then deposit it at enemy goal zones; the team with the higher score when time expires wins the game.

The Friday group stage reduced the field to eight teams, which entered a newly seeded double-elimination bracket on Saturday. Luminosity reached the Grand Final through the upper side, while OMO Abyssinian returned after losing their earlier upper-bracket meeting and advancing through the lower bracket.

The championship match was best-of-five, so three game wins were sufficient. Independent reporting records that the first two games remained close until late Rayquaza fights, after which Luminosity converted the central objective into scoring opportunities and took both games.

Game 3 produced the numerical endpoint: Luminosity scored 663 points to OMO Abyssinian’s 22, completing a 3–0 series. The official results awarded Luminosity $100,000 and OMO $75,000 from the UNITE division’s $500,000 prize pool.

Luminosity’s starting five were slash, Overlord98, kyriaos, Elo, and Rhinne, with Junglebook listed as the alternate; OMO’s five were Jrabsnt, TempezT, Luisss, Miva, and Shua, with Redlove listed as the alternate. Slash, Overlord98, kyriaos, and Elo had also been members of the 2022 champion lineup competing as BLVKHVND, making the Yokohama result a second consecutive world title for that four-player core.

The broader Pokémon World Championships also staged the physical Pokémon TCG, console Pokémon video game, and Pokémon GO divisions at the complex, but their formats and champions are separate records. This pin marks PACIFICO Yokohama’s Exhibition Halls at 1-1-1 Minatomirai, not another Yokohama activation or an online qualifier.
