People treat Alphabet as a Mountain View campus named in a Monday blog post.
The first company rooms were rented on this street.
On 4 September 1998 Larry Page and Sergey Brin incorporated Google in California.
That autumn they rented the garage and three rooms at 232 Santa Margarita Avenue from Susan Wojcicki for about 1,700 dollars a month.
The domain google.com had been registered on 15 September 1997.
Page and Brin were still Stanford graduate students two miles away.
The next office, in 1999, was 165 University Avenue in Palo Alto.
Google bought this Menlo Park house in 2006 to keep the address in the company history.
The house remains a private residence. The sidewalk is the public view.
Do not walk onto the drive or photograph the interior from the lot.
On 19 August 2004 the company sold Class A shares in its initial public offering at 85 dollars a share.
Alphabet Inc. later became the listed parent. Both Google Class A and Class C still sit in the S and P 500 and the Nasdaq-100.
The mechanism is a university search project that left campus, paid residential rent, and then sold stock under its own name.
The side door is still on Santa Margarita Avenue.
