People treat Microsoft as a Redmond campus that later sat in the Dow.
The first rented rooms were in this Albuquerque block.
On 4 April 1975 Bill Gates and Paul Allen began doing business as Micro-Soft, next to MITS, the maker of the Altair 8800.
They had written a BASIC interpreter for that machine after the January 1975 Popular Electronics cover.
A licensing agreement with MITS was signed on 22 July 1975.
The hyphenated name Micro-soft appears in a letter dated 29 November 1975.
The partnership's 1975 sales, reported on Form 1065, were 16,005 dollars.
The office sat in a low-rent strip at 6320 Linn Avenue Northeast, a block off Central Avenue, which is Route 66 through the city.
The firm moved to Bellevue, Washington, in early 1979 after it was no longer tied to MITS.
A plaque on the corner of Linn and California marks the site. The building is ordinary commercial space.
Microsoft Corporation later listed on 13 March 1986.
The stock still sits in the S and P 500 and the Nasdaq-100.
The mechanism is a language sold to the first microcomputer maker, written before the partnership had a registered name.
The rooms were never a campus. They were rooms past a vacuum shop on Linn Avenue.
