Full House|Baemikkumi Sculpture Park — The Island the Guidebooks Named Next

VisitKorea's Full House page did not stop at the house. It sent you one bridge farther, onto Modo, to the sculpture park on the south shore. The official line was short: Jogak Park on Modo Island; a bridge connects these two islands.

Baemikkumi takes its name from a local word for the hole in a ship's bilge. The inlet looks like that from the water. Sculptor Lee Il-ho set his studio here and left the works on the grass and the rocks. Bronze figures face the Yellow Sea. Some stand in the tide line and disappear when the water rises.

The park is open all year. The fee is small. You come because the 2004 tourism copy already treated this coast as part of the same circuit, and because the house on Sugi Beach is no longer there to finish the walk. The sculptures keep the appointment the wooden set cannot keep. Stand on the last island in the chain and look back toward Sido. That is the pilgrimage the official map still describes.
