Andrew Carnegie died on 11 August 1919 at Shadow Brook in Lenox, Massachusetts, of bronchopneumonia, aged eighty-three. He was buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, New York, in a plot marked by a Celtic cross cut by George Henry Paulin.
Louise Whitfield Carnegie lies with him. The cottage on Moodie Street in Dunfermline had already been bought back by Louise in 1895 and opened to visitors. The steel towns kept the mills. This hillside above the Hudson kept the name.
