Biography | Josh D'Amaro — Hired as a Planner Under This Anaheim Castle

Disney careers are often told as if they begin on an opening-day stage.

Josh D'Amaro's first title at the company was quieter.

In 1998, at twenty-seven, he joined the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim as a senior business planner.

He had spent the years after Georgetown in Gillette's Boston finance department.

The application that took was for a strategy post at the park where Walt Disney had opened the gates in 1955.

Sleeping Beauty Castle still sits on the hub that every first-time guest walks toward.

That is the public pin for the hire, not a private office.

Over the next eight years at the resort he moved through operations, business planning, finance, sales, and marketing.

Company biographies later listed the same stretch as the start of a twenty-eight-year internal climb.

The castle itself is not a workplace in the payroll sense.

It is the landmark that marks the lot where that climb began.

When Disney named him president of the Disneyland Resort in 2018, he said he was returning to the place where the career had started nearly twenty years earlier.

That sentence is useful only as confirmation of the 1998 start date.

The later presidency is a separate pin.

What belongs here is the unglamorous first desk: a planner hired into a park that already had a castle, a railroad, and a long habit of treating finance people as temporary guests.
