People remember the GitHub sale as a June headline.
Microsoft announced the 7.5-billion-dollar stock deal on 4 June 2018 and named Friedman, then a Microsoft vice president, as the incoming chief executive.
The deal closed on Friday 26 October 2018.
On the GitHub blog that afternoon he said Monday would be his first day.
Monday was 29 October 2018.
The office he walked into was 88 Colin P Kelly Jr Street, in South Beach, a few blocks from the Giants' ballpark.
Chris Wanstrath, the co-founder who had been running the search for his own replacement since August 2017, moved to Microsoft as a technical fellow.
Friedman kept the company on its own brand.
During a three-year run the shop shipped Copilot, Codespaces, Sponsors, and a command-line tool.
He stepped down in November 2021.
The South Beach building is a documented public headquarters from that period, not a private residence.
He has since moved house. That address is not this pin.
