Koji Sato's first public credential is a March 1992 bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Waseda University.

The science and engineering faculties sit at Nishi-Waseda Campus, 3-4-1 Okubo, Shinjuku — the block students still call Sodai Rikou.

Building 51, designed by Ando Katsuo and opened with the campus in 1967, holds the Center for Science and Engineering.

Sato's official Toyota biography records the degree and the year, and nothing more about the rooms.

Japanese profiles add that as an undergraduate he worked on diesel-engine combustion.

That is the only research detail that repeats across independent summaries.

The campus was then still called Okubo Campus.

It took the Nishi-Waseda name in April 2009, after the original Nishi-Waseda site became today's main Waseda Campus.

Tokyo Metro's Fukutoshin Line now opens directly into the grounds at Nishi-Waseda Station.

A visitor looking for a Sato plaque will not find one.

What stands is the same engineering precinct he left in March 1992, weeks before Toyota hired him.

Waseda had moved the science faculties here from the older campus in 1967.

By Sato's years the site already held the core undergraduate departments that later reorganized as the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

The official company page still prints only the degree, the field, and 1992.

That brevity is useful.

It keeps the pin on a public campus instead of a vanished seminar room.

Stand at Building 51 and the story is simple: a Tokyo-born engineer finished here, then took the job that would occupy the next three decades.
