Biography | Javid Abdelmoneim — The Keppel Street Diploma Between the NHS and the Field

The degree on Gower Street was not the last piece of paper before the first MSF contract.

Abdelmoneim took a diploma in tropical medicine at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the Keppel Street building whose frieze still faces the Bloomsbury grid.

MSF's 2025 presidential biographies list that diploma beside the UCL medical degree and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians.

They do not print a conferral day. The school and the credential are what the record will support.

LSHTM sits a few minutes east of the Cruciform. A doctor walking from one to the other was moving between a former hospital-turned-school and a school built for the diseases he would later treat in the field.

Before Basra he was already an NHS emergency doctor and a Member of the Royal College of Physicians.

The tropical-medicine diploma is the credential that sits between those London jobs and the first overseas contract in September 2009.

The building on this pin is public and still in use as LSHTM. It is not a private clinic and not a home.

For a living subject that is the point of the pin: a documented school, not a schedule.
