Biography | Sean Doyle — The Dublin Terminal Where Aer Lingus Unveiled a White Livery

People treat the Aer Lingus years as a footnote on the way back to Heathrow.

They were a public test in their own right.

Aer Lingus dated Doyle's appointment as chief executive from 1 January 2019, after he left British Airways' network, fleet and alliances seat.

On 17 January he stood at Dublin Airport for the first large public act of that tenure: a brand refresh that put a mostly white livery on the fleet and kept the shamrock.

RTÉ, the Irish Times and The Times all covered the briefing the same day.

He used it to say the airline expected to keep flying after 29 March even if Britain left the European Union without a deal.

The cost of the refresh, he told reporters, was lower than the €2 million some papers had printed.

Terminal 2 is the public building attached to that morning.

Aer Lingus had made the terminal its Dublin home after the 2010 opening; the corporate offices sit on the airport estate at Shamrock House, which is not a visitor site.

The white-and-shamrock aircraft he sent out that year were the same transatlantic push the Financial Times later credited him with deepening on A321neo metal.

Twenty-two months later International Airlines Group pulled him back to Waterside.
