People treat Apple as the ring at One Apple Park Way that always sold a phone from an S and P 500 book.
The first book was a two-page partnership on a Los Altos ranch house lot.
On 1 April 1976 Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne signed Apple Computer Company into being. The house number on the Jobs family lot was then 11161 Crist Drive. After annexation it became 2066.
Wozniak had already shown a board at the Homebrew Computer Club. Paul Terrell of the Byte Shop in Mountain View ordered fifty assembled machines, not kits. That order forced a company instead of a hobby.
Wayne drafted the partnership papers and a first logo, then left the book eleven days later. Design work sat on Wozniak's Hewlett-Packard desk and in Jobs's bedroom. Final assembly of the first Apple I boards used the garage.
The mechanism was a complete board that plugged into a keyboard and a television, so a buyer did not have to wire a computer from a bag of parts.
The house is a Los Altos historic resource. It remains a private residence. The pin is the public sidewalk on Crist Drive, not the door.
Apple Computer, Inc. was incorporated on 3 January 1977 after Mike Markkula wrote the plan.
