People treat Cintas as a Mason campus that always rented uniforms.
The first book collected factory rags.
In 1929, after the Depression closed the circus where they performed, Richard "Doc" Farmer and Amelia Farmer began gathering used rags from Cincinnati factories, washing them, and selling them back.
The firm traded as Acme Industrial Laundry Company.
The 1938 Ohio River flood destroyed the first plant.
The Farmers moved the works to Duck Creek Road in Norwood.
By the early 1940s the product was no longer scrap cloth but a standardized shop towel.
Their grandson Richard "Dick" Farmer joined in 1957, when Acme had twelve employees and about $180,000 in annual revenue.
He pushed the company into uniform rental in 1959.
The Ridge Road plant in Pleasant Ridge opened in 1962 and is still a working Cintas site.
The Cintas name arrived in 1972.
The listed company went public in 1983.
Mason later became the headquarters campus.
