People treat Hasbro as a Pawtucket toy campus that always sold Mr. Potato Head.
The first book sold leftover cloth.
On 6 December 1923 three Polish-Jewish brothers, Herman, Hillel and Henry Hassenfeld, opened Hassenfeld Brothers as a textile-remnant vendor in Providence, Rhode Island.
The firm incorporated in Rhode Island on 8 January 1926 and shifted into pencil boxes and school supplies when the remnant margin thinned.
When a pencil supplier started making cases of its own, the brothers made the pencils.
Modeling clay and doctor kits followed; by 1942 the house was a toy company.
Mr. Potato Head, advertised on television in 1952, was the first toy sold that way.
The name shortened to Hasbro Industries in 1968.
In 1962 the company bought the 1899 Potter and Johnston works at 1027 Newport Avenue in Pawtucket, the public door that held headquarters for the next six decades.
