People treat Salesforce as the tallest tower in San Francisco that arrived already named Cloud and Ohana.
The first code was written here, in a rented one-bedroom at 1449 Montgomery Street on Telegraph Hill, from 8 March 1999.
Marc Benioff was still an Oracle executive. Parker Harris, Dave Moellenhoff and Frank Dominguez took the upper floor. Recruiters and sales sat downstairs. There was almost no furniture and a view of the Bay Bridge. Benioff's dog Koa was named Chief Love Officer. Friends were asked in to break the prototype. Hawaiian shirts were the uniform. Mama's on Washington Square was the canteen.
By July the apartment was full and they leased 8,000 square feet at Rincon Center. Harris said it was too much space. Within a year the desks were in the corridors. The tower on Mission Street is a later building. 1449 Montgomery is the first address the corporation ran from.
