People treat Asahi as a Tokyo beverage group that arrived already selling Super Dry from a listed holding company.
The first kettle sat in Suita.
In November 1889 Komakichi Torii, Shuzo Toyama, and Osaka backers formed Osaka Brewery, Ltd. to brew beer in Japan with German plant and German brewers, against cheap imports.
They chose Suita for spring water. The Suita Village Brewery at what is now 1-45 Nishinosho-cho was completed in 1891.
Asahi Beer went on sale in May 1892 from this yard. The company later said the first brew ran short almost at once.
In 1906 Osaka Brewery merged with Japan Brewery and Sapporo Brewery into Dai Nippon Brewery. In 1949 that combine was split under the Excessive Economic Power Deconcentration Act. Asahi Breweries, Ltd. was reconstituted that September, with this Suita plant still in the line.
The same site is Asahi's only Kansai brewery today and still offers reserved tours. Brick from the early works survives on the grounds.
The Nikkei 225 drinks group still dates its origin to the 1889 Osaka filing and to this Suita lot.
