People treat Tokyo Electron as an Akasaka tower that always built etch and deposition tools.
The first office sold imported diffusion furnaces from a broadcaster's building.
On 11 November 1963 Tokuo Kubo and Toshio Kodaka established Tokyo Electron Laboratories, Inc. with capital of 5 million yen in 1963 yen, funded largely by Tokyo Broadcasting System.
The company's official milestone page places that first office in Akasaka, Minato.
In 1964 the firm took the Japanese agency for Thermco diffusion furnaces.
In 1965 it added Fairchild IC testers.
A Yamanashi plant opened in 1973.
Shares listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Second Section on 2 June 1980 and moved to the First Section in March 1984.
The present headquarters is Akasaka Biz Tower at 5-3-1 Akasaka, on the same ridge as the old TBS site.
The tower also houses other Akasaka Sacas tenants.

What survived is a tool maker that began as a trading desk for American furnaces and later built the process equipment itself.
