People treat Uniqlo as a Ginza and Midtown flagship that arrived already named after fleece.
The first Unique Clothing Warehouse opened here, on Fukuro-machi in Naka-ku, Hiroshima, at 6 a.m. on 2 June 1984.
Tadashi Yanai had come home to Ube in 1972 to run his father Hitoshi's men's shop, Ogori Shoji, founded as a private firm in 1949.
After a decade on that floor he put a unisex casual store into a Hiroshima shopping street and kept it open from dawn.
The Fukuromachi shop closed in August 1991, a month before Ogori Shoji became Fast Retailing.
The 100th Japanese store opened in 1994, the year the stock listed on the Hiroshima exchange.
A Harajuku downtown store followed in 1998, the same autumn as the 1,900-yen fleece campaign.
The parent still keeps a Yamaguchi headquarters. The first warehouse door was this street.
