People treat Samsung Biologics as a Songdo campus that always filled stainless tanks for Western drug houses.
The first plant was a vacant lot in a free economic zone.
Samsung named biologics a new strategic business in 2010. Samsung Biologics was established on 22 April 2011 as a joint venture of Samsung Electronics, Samsung Everland, Samsung C and T, and Quintiles Transnational. Ground broke on the first manufacturing plant in Songdo in May 2011.
Construction of Plant 1 finished in July 2013 on a 69,000-square-metre footprint inside a larger site. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared the plant to begin production in 2015. Later plants and an antibody-drug-conjugate building rose on the same peninsula.
The present address is 300 Songdo bio-daero, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. The public view is the bio-daero frontage and the canal streets of Songdo, not the classified suites.
The mechanism is contract capacity. Samsung put shipyard-scale construction discipline on monoclonal-antibody tanks and sold the empty volume to firms that did not want to build their own plants.
This pin is not Suwon or Gangnam. The biologics book was written on reclaimed land beside Incheon airport.
