Technology History | CrowdStrike — Twenty-Five Million Dollars for a Cloud Agent in Irvine

People treat CrowdStrike as an Austin listing that always sold a Falcon agent from a Sunnyvale floor.
The first book was a Saturday slide deck and an Orange County room.
After Intel bought McAfee, George Kurtz left the old endpoint shop. In November 2011 he sat as an entrepreneur-in-residence at Warburg Pincus and wrote a cloud sensor that would not live on a customer's disk array.
In February 2012 Kurtz, Dmitri Alperovitch, and Gregg Marston incorporated CrowdStrike in Irvine. Warburg put up 25 million dollars in 2012 money, the joke later being a million per slide.
Falcon shipped in 2013 as a lightweight agent that sent behavior to the cloud instead of matching signatures on the box. The first office the county still names sat on Laguna Canyon Road in the Spectrum.
Headquarters later moved to Sunnyvale, then to Austin. The Irvine rooms stayed as a lab.
The mechanism is still the Irvine one.
An antivirus file on a laptop could not see a new implant on the day it appeared. A sensor that streamed what a process did, not what a hash said, could hunt the implant without a nightly update.
A visitor on Laguna Canyon still passes the Spectrum glass that held the first desks before Texas took the letterhead.
The agent outgrew the canyon.
The canyon is where the book started.
