People treat Merck as a Kenilworth and Whitehouse Station name that arrived already writing the Manual.
George Merck, age 23, opened the American house of E. Merck of Darmstadt on 1 January 1891 to sell fine chemicals through New York.
In 1903 he took about 150 acres at what became 126 East Lincoln Avenue in Rahway, New Jersey, with twenty employees, two buildings and two working telephones, and began to manufacture as well as distribute.
The research laboratory opened on that ground in 1933. After wartime sequestration the American firm stood apart from Darmstadt. It merged with Sharp and Dohme in 1953 and later cycled the headquarters to Whitehouse Station and Kenilworth before returning to a rebuilt Rahway campus in 2023.
Outside the United States and Canada the same company is called MSD. The first New Jersey floor was this acreage.
