People treat Keyence as an Osaka tower that was always a sensor company with a Prime-market ticker.
The first name was Lead Electric, and the first city was Amagasaki.
Takemitsu Takizaki started a sole proprietorship in Itami in March 1972, building automatic-control gadgets. On 27 May 1974 he incorporated Lead Electric Co., Ltd. in Amagasaki, Hyogo. Factory-automation sensors went on sale the year before the incorporation papers.
The firm moved to Suita in 1981 and to Takatsuki in 1984. In October 1986 the name became Keyence, from KEY of sciENCE. It listed on the Osaka second section in 1987 and reached the first section of Tokyo and Osaka in 1990.
The mechanism is a refusal to own the factory floor. Keyence designs and sells. Contract plants make the boxes. Salespeople call on engineers directly instead of feeding a distributor catalog. The margin sits in the application conversation, not in a channel markup.
In August 1994 the company opened the present headquarters and laboratory at 1-3-14 Higashi-Nakajima in Higashiyodogawa-ku, Osaka, a Nikken Sekkei building put up by Obayashi. Fossils sit in the corridors. The display is a standing joke about products that fail to renew.
This pin is the 1994 hall, not the 1974 Amagasaki room. The Amagasaki address is not a public landmark. Walk the sidewalk on Higashi-Nakajima. The laboratory is not a showroom.
