People treat Tokyo Electron as an Akasaka equipment giant that always built etch tools.
The first firm imported diffusion furnaces.
On 11 November 1963 Tokuo Kubo and Toshio Kodaka founded Tokyo Electron Laboratories with capital of 5 million yen in 1963 yen.
Tokyo Broadcasting System supplied the money.
The first office opened inside the TBS building in Akasaka.
TEL's official chronology records the Thermco furnace agency in 1964 and the Fairchild tester agency in 1965.
A later joint venture with Lam Research built etch tools in Japan from 1983.
The operating headquarters is now Akasaka Biz Tower at 5-3-1 Akasaka, on the Akasaka Sacas lot that replaced the old TBS site.
