People treat SLB as a Houston and Paris contractor that always arrived with a wireline truck.
The first log was taken in an Alsatian well.
On 1 July 1926 Conrad and Marcel Schlumberger formed Societe de Prospection Electrique in Paris, with a first office on rue Fabert, to sell electrical prospecting their father Paul had financed.
On 5 September 1927 Henri-Georges Doll, Roger Jost, and Charles Scheibli lowered a homemade probe into Diefenbach well 2905 at Merkwiller-Pechelbronn.
The hole was about 500 metres deep; they logged from roughly 130 to 270 metres, one reading per metre, at about 50 metres an hour.
The brothers called the method an Electrical Survey.
On 28 July 1928 Pechelbronn signed the first commercial contract at 12,000 francs a month.
The mechanism is resistivity versus depth inside the borehole, not a surface map of a salt dome.
