People treat Recruit as a Marunouchi software tower that always owned Indeed.
The first company sold advertisements in university newspapers.
On 31 March 1960 Hiromasa Ezoe, then a University of Tokyo psychology student, founded Daigaku Shimbun Kokoku-sha.
The first rooms sat on the rooftop of the Second Mori Building.
The firm incorporated as Japan Recruit Center on 26 August 1963.
Recruit Holdings' own FAQ still dates founding to March 1960 and incorporation to August 1963.
The 1988 Recruit share-allocation case forced Ezoe out of the company.
Tokyo District Court convicted him in March 2003.
Daiei took the shares in 1992.
Recruit later stood alone again and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on 16 October 2014 at 3,100 yen a share.
Indeed and Glassdoor now sit inside the same parent.
Headquarters is GranTokyo South Tower at 1-9-2 Marunouchi.

What survived is a classified-ad shop that bought the world's largest job-search engine after its founder had already left under a criminal judgment.
