People treat NAVER as the green tower at Jeongja and a search box that never needed Google.
The corporation was formed here, as NAVER.com, on 2 June 1999, when Lee Hae-jin took a Samsung SDS internal venture out of Teheran-ro and into Seoul Venture Town in Yeoksam-dong.
The portal launched on its own search engine. Junior NAVER followed the same year. Integrated search, results grouped by blogs, cafes and images, arrived in 2000.
The firm merged Hangame in 2000, took the NHN name in 2001, listed on KOSDAQ in 2002 and moved the headquarters to Green Factory in Bundang in 2010. The name NAVER returned in 2013 when the game unit was split off.
Early offices stayed inside Yeoksam. Four moves before the listing never left that stretch of Gangnam. The first desk was a spun-out SDS room, not the 28-storey factory.
What remains in Bundang is the later campus. The origin is the 1999 filing and a rented floor on Teheran-ro.
