People treat Suzuki as the car campus at 300 Takatsuka-cho.
The first product was a foot-powered loom.
In October 1909 Michio Suzuki, then twenty-two, opened Suzuki Loom Works in Hamana-gun Tenjin-mura, now inside Hamamatsu. The Suzuki Michio Memorial Foundation still marks the first rented plot in Nakajima-cho, where a two-storey silkworm house was converted into a shop.
The company's 100th-anniversary notice dates incorporation to 15 March 1920, when Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was formed in the same district with paid-in capital of 500,000 yen and Suzuki as president.
A 1912 patent for a two-shuttle foot loom is the technical fact the firm keeps. Patterned cloth needed a mechanism, not only cheaper copies of Enshu's existing looms.
The head office moved to the present Takatsuka-cho ground in May 1947. The public gate is a ten-minute walk from JR Takatsuka station. Visitors are asked to use the underpass to the guardhouse. Do not treat the plant roads as a public tour.
The name changed to Suzuki Motor Co. in June 1954 and to Suzuki Motor Corporation in October 1990. The first volume light car, Suzulight, belongs to that later chapter.
The mechanism is a provincial loom works that followed demand out of textiles. When the cloth trade thinned, the same machine shop tried powered two-wheelers and then light cars. Hamamatsu already had Yamaha's instrument factory and Honda's shed. Suzuki stayed on the west side of the city.
Pin Takatsuka-cho for the standing campus. The Nakajima-cho silkworm house is the origin the foundation still names.
