People treat KT and G as a Gangnam tower that always sold Esse slims and red ginseng from a privatized book.
The first corporate book was a state monopoly taken off the ministry ledger.
On 1 April 1987 the Korea Monopoly Corporation was stood up from the Monopoly Bureau that had run tobacco and ginseng since the Korean Empire.
The ginseng desk itself dated to 1899, when the imperial household formed a Ginseng Division. Tobacco and red ginseng stayed exclusive state goods after 1948. Foreign cigarettes were a police matter.
The name became Korea Tobacco and Ginseng Corporation on 1 April 1989. The tobacco market opened in 1988. Privatization and the ticker 033780 followed.
The present headquarters is 71 Beotkkot-gil, Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, beside the Shintanjin plant completed in 1965. A separate KT and G Tower stands on Yeongdong-daero in Gangnam.
The pin is the public Daejeon frontage, not the Seoul office. The interiors are offices.
The mechanism is a fiscal monopoly rewritten as a listed manufacturer. The slims and the ginseng pouch sit on a book that began as a government exclusive.
