People treat SMC as a Kyobashi listing that always sold a pneumatic valve and a cylinder to a factory line.
The first book was powdered metal pressed into a filter.
On 27 April 1959 Yoshiyuki Takada established Shoketsu Kinzoku Kogyo, Sintered Metal Corporation, in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, to make sintered-metal filter elements by powder metallurgy.
Eight people started the shop. Most of them were part-time. There was no office telephone; staff walked next door to a printer when a call had to go out.
Air-line equipment, the F.R.L. trio of filter, regulator, and lubricator, went on sale in 1961.
Automatic control gear was added to the charter in 1964.
The overseas brand SMC, from Sintered Metal Company, was already on the boxes when Australia took a stake in 1967.
The legal name became SMC Corporation on 1 April 1986, ahead of the Tokyo listing.
The stock entered the Second Section in December 1987 and the First Section in September 1989.
Headquarters later moved from Sotokanda to 1-5-5 Kyobashi.
The pin is Chiyoda, where the sintered-metal charter was written.
The mechanism is a filter element that taught the house how compressed air behaves, then a catalogue of valves and actuators sold into every plant that wanted a hand replaced by a cylinder.
