People treat Takeda as a Nihonbashi tower that arrived already named Entyvio.
The first packets were weighed here, in Osaka's medicine street, on 12 June 1781.
Chobei Takeda I, then thirty-two, opened a shop under the house name Omiya after leaving the service of a Doshomachi wholesaler.
The street already held a guild. In 1722 the bakufu had licensed the Doshomachi drug brokers as a kabunakama that inspected imported Chinese herbs and set their prices for the whole country.
The new shop bought those lots, divided them, and sold the smaller parcels to local merchants and doctors.
The family later took the Takeda surname. The fifth Chobei incorporated Chobei Takeda and Co., Ltd. on 29 January 1925 with 5.3 million yen of capital.
The wooden shop is gone. The register still sits at 1-1, Doshomachi 4-chome, the same block the company names as the founding site.
The 1928 hall on the street is the Takeda Doshomachi Building. The present Osaka headquarters, Takeda Midosuji Building, occupies the lot.
Western drugs entered the ledgers in 1871. A factory in Osaka began making them in 1895.
Sukunahikona Shrine, one street over, had been raised by the same guild in 1780 for the medicine gods Sukunahikona and Shennong.
The pin is the public frontage on Doshomachi. The interiors are offices.
