People treat Motorola Solutions as a Chicago radio-and-public-safety house that always lived in a Schaumburg campus.
The first book was a rented shop west of Halsted.
On 25 September 1928 Paul V. Galvin and his brother Joseph incorporated Galvin Manufacturing Corporation at 847 West Harrison Street.
The assets were 565 dollars in cash, 750 dollars in tools, a design for a battery eliminator, and five employees whose first week's payroll was 63 dollars.
The first recorded sale had already gone out on 17 September: ten Type A eliminators to Sears, Roebuck and Co., so a battery radio could run on household alternating current.
First-year net sales were 63,000 dollars and net earnings 6,015 dollars.
On 23 June 1930 the ledger first used the Motorola name on a 30-dollar car radio sold to H.C. Wall of Fort Wayne.
The brand fused motor and Victrola.
The mechanism was a cheaper aftermarket set, not a custom coachbuilder job that cost about 250 dollars in 1926 money.
The Harrison rooms later vanished under the University of Illinois Chicago campus.
Stand on West Harrison and you are on the block where the battery shop became a radio company.
