People treat Samsung SDI as a Yongin battery campus that always made cells.
The first product was a vacuum tube.
On 20 January 1970 Samsung-NEC Co., Ltd. was founded as a technical joint venture with NEC.
Samsung SDI's own history dates vacuum-tube production to July 1970.
The Gumi plant was completed in November 1978.
The name became Samsung Electron Device in 1984 and Samsung SDI in December 1999.
A Cheonan cell plant completion ceremony was held in July 2000.
The operating headquarters is 150-20 Gongse-ro, Giheung-gu, Yongin.

What survived is a picture-tube company that kept the materials bench and moved it under lithium-ion cells.
