People treat Samsung as a Suwon campus that arrived already making chips.
The first sign that used the three-star name was hung here, on a lot now recorded as Ingyo-dong 59-3 in Jung-gu, Daegu, on 1 March 1938.
Lee Byung-chul opened Samsung Sanghoe with capital of 30,000 yen. The shop sold Daegu apples, Pohang dried fish and, soon after, Byulpyo noodles. The export route ran toward Manchuria and the China coast.
The original building was a wood-frame stack, basement plus four floors, near Seomun Market. Daegu kept it empty for a time after the firm moved on. In 1997 the city had it pulled down as unsafe. A facade mock-up, a 1:250 bronze model and plaques mark the lot. A full-size reconstruction later went up on the old Cheil Industries site at the Daegu Samsung Creative Campus. That reconstruction is not this pin.
The house next door on Seoseong-ro 15-gil is the Lee family dwelling from 1938 to 1947. It is a private house managed by the Hoam Foundation. Do not treat it as a showroom.
What you can stand in front of at Dalseong-ro 100 is a memorial on a demolished shop. The mechanism is a provincial trading firm that kept the name when the business became sugar, wool, electronics and, much later, semiconductors.
