People treat LG Chem as a Yeouido tower that always sold petrochemicals and batteries.
The first product was a face cream.
In January 1947 Koo In-hwoi established Lucky Chemical Co., Ltd.
LG Corporation’s own chronology dates the founding to that month and names Lucky Cream as the first cosmetic.
A later laboratory opened in Changsin-dong, Seoul, in April 1948.
In 1952 a Busan factory in Beomil-dong started running Korea’s first injection-molding machine for plastic combs and soap cases.
A second Busan plant opened in Yeonji-dong in October 1954.
Lucky Toothpaste followed in 1955.
The chemical line widened into detergent, vinyl, and later petrochemicals.
The firm took the LG Chem name in 1995.
A 2001 split separated the holding company, the chemical company, and the household-goods company.
The public building that still carries the group name is LG Twin Towers at 128 Yeoui-daero, Yeongdeungpo-gu, completed in June 1987 as the Lucky-Goldstar Twin Towers.

The 1947 house workshop in Busan is gone.
What survived the cream-to-chemicals shift is a materials company that still dates itself from that January 1947 register, not from the 1987 towers.
This is a different lot and a different first product from the GoldStar radio works already recorded in Busan.
